MR-65 / Eco-design requirements for Energy Using Products (EuP)

Summary
After reaching an agreement with the European Council, the European Parliament adopted the framework Directive on the Eco-design of Energy Using Products (EuP) on April 13, 2005. Through the use of eco-design, they mean to regulate the integration of environmental considerations at the design phase of a product. The Parliament made a number of amendments to the draft framework Directive, making it more stringent in many aspects than the original Commission proposal, and naming the first targets of the implementing measures. Once in place, these eco-design requirements will become legally binding for all energy using products put on the EU market, regardless of where theuy are designed and produced. The Directive will require CE Marking to demonstrate conformity.
